My name is Mark and I am a 44-year-old plasterer. Twenty-nine years ago, I went horse riding once a fortnight with a school mate for about two months and that about sums up my skills as a horseman. My partner, on the other hand, is very skilled. Her love for horses sparked my interest in horses again. Since Tracey had 2 horses, it allowed me to be a part of it again. I adopted 'Reggie', a beautiful thoroughbred gelding at 16.1 hands – an ex-galloper and show stopper.
Reggie and I get on well, but he certainly had the upper hand. With just eight hours’ riding experience since those early years, I was as green as they come.
Tracey and I were invited to attend a day with Carlos to learn about Natural Horsemanship and how to communicate with our horses.
Nothing could have prepared me for such an amazing and uplifting experience as I had that day.
I went from a green rider totally dominated by my horse to, just six hours later, riding that same horse seven kilometres home without a bit. Rather, I had an understanding that was achieved without pain and force, as well as a new found confidence and respect for my mate 'Reggie'.
I look forward to the next Carlos experience.
