| Building confidence starts early! We use our trust-based training to give young horses – and older horses – the best start in their career.
With foals, yearlings and two-year-olds, we concentrate on establishing a foundation on which we can build under saddle, around age three. This work is a vital part of their education, and it’s essential that it’s done properly to help the horse become confident and able to reach full potential.
Because most foals no longer have the benefit of growing up in a herd, we must help them to learn such things as yielding, moving away from pressure (they move into pressure when they’re young), respecting space and establishing leadership. As they get older, we work on groundwork skills, tying up, trailer loading, long lining and yielding from another horse. When it comes time to introduce the saddle and rider, a strong foundation already exists, making the process non-threatening for the horse.
"Whenever someone handles a horse, they will leave an impression on that horse for the rest of its life. Good or bad." Carlos |

Starting a horse should be a positive experience – one that honours and preserves the nature and spirit that belongs to each unique individual. This stockhorse stallion went from spirited challenge….

…to calmly accepting a rider under saddle for the first time.

It should also involve a wide range of experiences that create boldness,
confidence, understanding and trust.

And a bit of fun!
